Best Glaucoma Paper Awards:

The judges for the Best Glaucoma Paper Awards were Drs. Raageen Kanjee, Katie Birt, Sylvia Chen, Paul Mackenzie and Susan Wakil.

Student / Undergrad or Medical degree:

There was (3) submissions.

The winner is Herman Stubeda for the study: “Comparing Five Criteria for Evaluating Glaucomatous Visual Field Loss”, accepted for publication in American Journal of Ophthalmology in Oct. 2021.

Dr. Jayme Vianna was the supervisor for the study.

Graduate Student / Masters or PhD:

There was (2) submissions.

The winner is Delaney C.M. Henderson for the study: “Longitudinal In Vivo Changes in Retinal Ganglion Cell Dendritic Morphology After Acute and Chronic Optic Nerve Injury”, published in Journal of Investigative Ophthalmology and Visual Science, July 2021.

Dr. Balwantray Chauhan was the supervisor for the study.

Ophthalmologist in Training / Resident or Fellow:

There were (2) submissions.

The winner is Dr. Ali Salimi for the study:   “Matched Cohort Study of Cataract Surgery With and Without Trabecular Microbypass Stent Implantation in Primary Angle-Closure Glaucoma“,  published in the American Journal of Ophthalmology, in April 2021.

Dr. Paul Harasymowycz was the supervisor for the study.

Staff Member / Ophthalmologist or PhD Scientist:

There was (1) submission.

The winner is Dr. I. Ahmed, staff ophthalmologist from Toronto for the study: “Three-Year Findings of the HORIZON Trial”, published in Ophthalmology, June 2021.

The Stephen Drance Award:

The judges for The Stephen Drance Award were Drs. Cindy Hutnik, Ali Hafez, Caroline Lajoie, Nir Shohan-Hasan.

There were (5) trainees who presented their research at the COS in Halifax in June 2022.

The winner is Anastasiya Vinokurtseva who was supervised by Dr. Cindy Hutnik for the following presentation:  Differential effects of acetylsalicylic acid and mitomycin C on cytokine-induced Tenon’s capsule myofibroblast transdifferentiation and activity:  implications for glaucoma surgery. 

Other authors are James Armstrong, Eria Li and Hong Liu.
